WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING

CH Velvety Angel Eyes

Just two weeks ago, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe's Hidalgo At Goodspice, won the all terrier extravaganza at the venerable Montgomery County Kennel Cub show. Yet today Terrier Group Judge Keke Kahn relegated “Charmin” to a Group 4 win behind a dazzling Swedish import, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Velvety Angel Eyes at the Laurel Highlands KA show in Cumberland, MD. It was the worst showing by Charmin in over 18 months. Also bettering the Sealie, was the Airedale Terrier, CH Sterling Cool Hand Luke, with a Group 3, and the Norfolk Terrier, CH Cause For Celebration, who garnered a Group 2.

CH Cause For Celebration

The Bedlington, call name “Loppan” (Swedish for “Flea”, no kidding), was bred by Lise Lotte Nilsson and is owned by MS Nilsson and Anki Bengtson & Joan Weiskopf of Sinking Spring, PA. Loppan did have the good manners to win BIS after defeating the country’s number three dog in the Terrier Group. Judge Leonora Riddle gave this dog in lamb drag his second AKC Best In Show. His first was just three weeks ago in Oyster Bay, NY at the Westbury KA . This is a dog to watch.

  1. Great Blog! It's more that refreshing to see somebody lifting their eyes slightly above the legion of legless terriers to see a truly beautiful dog who deserves some recognition. I am a dyed in the wool Loppan fan, and what you don't know is that this Bedlington who was BOB at the World show this year and #2 in the World Terrier Group is a bitch! This makes her achievements this year and her besting of Charmin all the more remarkable. It's hare to special a bitch, especially a Bedlington. The Charmin/Loppan rivalry is surely one to watch...it's not over yet.

I'm wishing to breed a one day a bitch like Loppan..... :)A great dog with a great Handler. I'm thinking it was not the last BIS-Winning :)

  4. The picture you have posted of "Loppan" is not of her. For one, Loppan is a liver bitch and the picture is clearly a blue bitch, besides the other obvious differences.

  5. Thanks to Anonymous for bringing to my attention that I had posted an incorrect photo. The original was taken from the breeder's website and labeled as "Loppan". We have replaced the original photo with a more recent one.

  6. I am Loppan's handler and co-owner in the USA, thank you Billy for your interest in our beautiful DIVA. Your original photo of MBIS Ch. Velvety Angel Eyes was in fact a correct picture of her. She is and always was liver. The picture showed her conforming to European standards for grooming at International Shows while here in the states her haircut is a little fuller to conform to USA standards. That photo was taken at Sofiero Kennel Club in Sweden when Loppan received a group placement in September of 2007. Her current Swedish titles include a Terrier Group 2 from the World Terrier Show this past summer and breed wins obviously there and days later at the World Dog Show. SW-07 WW-08 AMCh Velvety Angel Eyes is currently the #1 Bedlinton Terrier in Sweden. She had a BIS in Sweden under most respected judge Mr.Hans Lehtinen at Norrkoping (3600 dogs entered)in August 2007 before she arrived in the USA

  7. When I knew that Velvety Angel Eyes got an other BIS in USA, I was really excited and thrilled! As Nina did, I have just met "Loppi" this summer due to the World Dog Show in Sweden and I was clapping for her at the Terrier World Speciality BIS and during the Group at World Dog Show. I could spent very few time with Loppi but I can say she is a great bitch, not only as show dog but as a sweet sweet friend too! A wolf??? Yes it could be: a wolf in a sheep's clothing! Many congrats to dearest Lise Lotte Nillsson and Joan Weiskopf.

  8. Peremi,

Thanks for your comments. If you read this blog on a regular basis, you know I am a terrier owner and follow all the top dogs. Please keep me up to date on your girl's progress. I've noticed that we are starting to see more and more Swedish imports over here. I think they will be a real force in the years to come.

  10. Truly a stunning bedlington......i have followed Loppans results long before her BIS in Sweden. All my thoughts were reaffirmed when i saw her in the flesh at the world terrier show for the first time, and then again at the world show. So it is no suprise to me the results she is having in the US. A huge congradulations to Joan, Lise and Loppan on her most recent BIS and i look forward to hearing some great news from the upcoming specialty.

  11. Congratulations to Lise Lotte-Nilsson, Joan Weiskopf and Anki Bengtson on Loppan's latest BIS. This bitch is the most stunning Bedlington I have ever seen. She has the chest the rest of us "groom in" by leaving longer hair on the chest. She has wonderful conformation. She has beautiful movement, clearly being appreciated by the judges. Her win of BOB at the World Dog Show and Group II at the World Terrier Show is being followed by many BOB wins, many group placements and now her second BIS here in the U.S. Best of luck for more of the same.
