2010 NUMBER ONE DOG ALL BREEDS

GCH CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice

We always like to ring in the New Year with a bang and we couldn’t have asked for a more thrilling end to the year that the down to the wire rankings race.  For most of the year the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, led the field, though he was constantly challenged by the Number Two Dog, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, and the Number Three Dog, the Irish Setter, GCH CH Shadagee Caught Red Handed.  By November, the Smooth & Peke had pulled ahead of the field.

Weekend after weekend the Peke, Malachy, would come within one win of overtaking the Smooth, Dodger, only to have Dodger answer with another BIS.  However, on November 20th Malachy would grab the top prize at the big Lima Kennel Club show in Columbus OH and take the Number One ranking.  It was beginning to look like the determined little Peke would remain there for the duration of the year.  However, there is nothing like Terrier Tenacity and Dodger and owner/handler Amy Booth would doggedly pursue Malachy until they finally regained the top spot on December 18th  with a huge win at the Richland County Kennel Club show in Cleveland OH.  He would double down the next day taking the BIS at the Western Reserve Kennel Club show.  It all came down to the last week of the year and the Final Four shows in San Mateo CA.  Malachy fired the opening salvo on the 28th with a BIS at the Oakland Kennel Club show.  However the Peke’s valiant final rally would fail and Dodger would finish at the head of the line for 2010.

Dodger first caught our eye in January of 2009 when he went three for four in Florida against the 2009 Crufts winner, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Hidalgo At Goodspice.  We immediately made him a DOG2WATCH.  He has since gone on to become the winningest Smooth Fox Terrier in history, winning 105 all breed BIS including 74 this year alone.  Dodger was bred by William Dalling & Stacy Turner, is owned by Sandra & Howard Hoffen & Phil & Amy Booth.  Our congratulations to them all on a splendid campaign and career.  We also offer out sincere thanks to Team Dodger for providing us with one of the most exciting years in recent history.

  1. Way to go "Team Dodger". On the anniversary month of his grandpa's death, Dodger and team put their best competition foot(or paws) forward and showed us all what they are made of by achieving #1 status of which no other smooth has done. He couldn't have done it without the support of all the smooth fox terrier breeders and owners. Tux is barking his "excited bark" to you all.

  2. I'm honored to have seen Dodger, know Amy and the BlueRose Team and am sooooo happy for them.....That Peke gave Dodger a run for his money, that's for sure...what an exciting year. I have been following the entire year and although I am a dog show person, I never watched the race daily like I have this year. The dogs, handlers, and this site have made it a great sport to follow. Wow! Can 2011 come close to this excitement.....? We can only wait and see. I can't wait to see what happens at Westminster...thanks, Amy, David, Billy, all the dogs, and all the other top handlers and dogs for such a year!!!! I for one will be breeding, training, showing, and handling a little bit differently in 2011 and beyond. What a sport!! Congrats to all who worked so hard.

  5. This was one of the most exciting (and nail biting) end to a year that I can ever remember. We are so proud of Amy and Dodger, and her beyond supportive husband Phil and the Blue Rosebuds, words cannot describe. A fantastic campaign, executed with class and style, on all fronts. Congratulations to the #1 Dog in America, and to ALL the top dogs who made this such a thrilling season!

  8. When I heard of tux's untimely demise at the Palm Springs shows two years ago and handed Dodger's lead to a tearful Amy Booth, my wife asked how in the world I could give away such a special and loved dog.

I told her it was like sending the kids off to college and that Dodger could do so much in the hands of Amy and Phil. Thanks guys for making me a prophet and thank you Dodger for making all of our dreams come true! We have been so happy to be a silent part of Team Dodger along with our good friend, Stacy Turner, who turned us on to great smooth dogs.

And thank you Billy for following and reporting on this sport that none of us can get enough of. Yours has been a Blog2watch!
