The 2014 show season got underway in grand style yesterday at the beautiful Empire Equestrian Park & Polo Field in Indio CA.  One of the year’s biggest weekends began with three limited breed offerings, the Desert Empire Terrier Club of Southern California, the Toy Dog Breeders Association of Southern California, and the Sand to Sea Non-Sporting Association of Southern California.

Judge Betsy Dale had the Terrier Group and found four of 2013’s competitors.  Her Number One would be 2013’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky.  Her Number Two was 2013’s Number Seven Dog All Breeds and Number Two Terrier, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus.   Grabbing the Number Three Spot was the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s From Russia with Love.  Nailing down the final placement was the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH First Class Willow Wind The Phoenix.

Judge Norm Patton would choose a newcomer to top his Toy Group, the Pomeranian, CH Hightime’s What The Inferno.  Rounding out the placements were the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Xela’s Party Hat, the Toy Fox Terrier, GCH CH Ultra Quest Go For The Gold, and the Japanese Chin, GCH CH Victory Spencer, the only one of the four to make it into 2013’s Top 100 Dogs All Breeds.

Yesterday’s Non-Sporting Group was in the hands of judge Anne Savory Bolus.  Judge Bolus chose the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Del Zarzoso Salvame From Afterglow, as her Group One, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Yu Kou’s Keep On Luvn U CGC, as her Group Two, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Padow’s Too Hot To Handle, for her Group Three, and the French Bulldog, GCH CH LeBull’s El Morocco at LeCirque, for the Group Four.

Today the Southern California Sporting Dog Fanciers and the Inland Empire Hound Club of Southern California will join the above three clubs on the polo fields.  Check in with us later for results from Palm Springs as well as a report on today’s Columbiana County Kennel Club all breed show in Tallmadge OH.
