OES GETS THIRD BIS IN LOUSIVILLE

 With over 3400 dogs entered today’s Evansville Kennel Club show in Louisville KY may turn out to be the largest single day show of the year.

The seven dogs trying to collect all those points were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Legacy Random Titleist, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Silhouette's Au Fish, the Great Pyrenees, GCH CH Rivergroves Chateau De Castelnau, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine’s Deck the Hall, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect. 

Taking home all those points was the OES, Swagger. Getting the very prestigious photo op was the Welsh Terrier, Jennie. We will have to wait until the weekend to see if the win puts Swagger back in the Number One spot.

The Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, moved one BIS closer to the all-time record for a Toy Dog by taking the top prize at today’s Fort Lauderdale Dog Club show in Davie FL. GCH CH Cragsmoor Goodtime Charlie Judge Joseph Joly also considered the English Cocker, GCH CH Fieldstone Carousel Hell's Kitchen, the Whippet, CH Rogue's Meritage Of Starline, the Great Dane, GCH CH Raintree Erinwood Dixie For Heavens Sake, the RBIS, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Goodtime Charlie, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Del Zarzosa Salvame From Afterglow, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Limelite's Tenfold.

 Our remaining Friday offering was in Kansas City MO where the Leavenworth Kennel Club did an encore. Judge Gloria Geringer had a stellar seven of the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Pharaoh Hound, CH Farao Anubis Inferno SC, the Akita, GCH CH Stardust’s See You At The Show, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo’s Save Hjour Love For Me, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Kartellas Pressed And Mezhe’rd Gold, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgable The Frat Boy.

Best went to the Brittany, Beckett, and Reserve to the Poodle, Flame. Beckett is the nation’s Number One Sporting Dog with two BIS and 14 Sporting Groups this year.

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, renewed his assault on the record books with a BIS win at yesterday’s York Kennel Club show in that Pennsylvania burg.

Challenging Matisse for judge Charles Olvis’ favor were the English Setter, GCH CH Weymouth’s En Fuego, the RBIS, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Soonpi Friends in Low Places MLH, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, GCH CH Nazans I’m In Like Flynn, the Papillon, GCH CH InVolo The King of Pop, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Are-Jay’s Harlem Renaissance, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical’s My Turn.

The win is Matisse’s 24th in 30 visits to the final ring this year and his 119th career BIS, just shy of the record for a Working Dog of 124.

OES BACK2BACK BIS IN LOUISVILLE

At a hefty 3200 dogs, today’s entry at the Louisville Kennel Club show was 600 dogs bigger than yesterday’s Kentuckiana Cluster opener. The seven who made it to Dr Alvin Krause’s final were the Golden Retriever, GCH Easthill Broxden Woodland Lettuce Entertain You, the Black and Tan Coonhound, GCH CH Foxfire Full Force Gale, the Mastiff, GCH CH Goldleaf's Trouble Coming CGC, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Crynwyd Caprice, the Pug, GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine's Deck The Halls, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo's Picture Perfect.

Collecting his second consecutive BIS was the OES, Swagger. Tinsel, the Shar-Pei, was close behind with the RBIS. The win was Swagger’s 13 BIS in 29 final appearances this year. Swagger started the week 6500 points behind the Number One Dog All Breeds. In the last two days he has cut that lead to less than 4000 points. Did we mention that there are 6500 more dogs entered at Saturday’s Evansville Kennel Club and Sunday’s Louisville Kennel Club shows?

Judge Keke Kahn had the Leavenworth Kennel Club’s Thursday final, the first of four shows at the America Cluster in Kansas City MO. 

The seven dogs she saw were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Telltale American Ride, the Petit Basset Griffons Vendeen, CH Iceage V Tum-Tums Vriendjes, the Akita, GCH CH Stardust’s See You At The Show, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo’s Save Hjour Love For Me, the Blenheim English Toy Spaniel, CH Maibee Orlando, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Cher Ami’s Toast With Remy Martin, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables The Frat Boy.

The two she liked the best were the Sheltie, Brother, and the Cairn, Lexie. It was the first BIS in eight final appearance this year for Brother who finished 2013 as the Number Five Herding Dog with five BIS and 52 Herding Groups. Congratulations to breeders Guy Jeavons & Mark Houston-McMillan, owners Pamela Buckles, Andre Buckles, & James Moses, and handler Sarah L Karger.

CHIHUAHUA BIS IN YORK PA

Sitting on a substantial lead over the rest of the field, the Number One Dog All Breeds, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, opted to bypass the Kentuckiana Cluster’s Thursday giant opener in Louisville KY and stay in York PA for the smaller day two show of the Lancaster Kennel Club. 

Matisse was joined in Beverly Capstick’s final by the Pointer, CH Hipoint Here Comes The Sun, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Soonpi Friends In Low Places MLH the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s to Russia with Love, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Sonnus Silho, the Boston Terrier, GCH CH Katbirds Evolution Matters At Kayas, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical’s My Turn.

 Judge Capstick chose the Chihuahua, Sonnito, as her Best and the Bloodhound, Garth, as her Reserve. Sonnito, our newest Dog2Watch, has four BIS and ten Toy Groups in less than six weeks of showing. Take in the Toy Group at your next show. This year’s crop of Toy Dogs is one of the most competitive we have seen in years.

OES TAKES KETUCKIANA OPENER

Today’s Mid-Kentucky Kennel Club show opened the sport’s biggest weekend, the Kentuckiana Cluster in Louisville KY.  With almost 2700 dogs entered, the show drew many of the nation’s top dogs.

However, only two of judge James Noe‘s finalists are currently in the Top 50 dogs all breeds, testament to the fierce competition at the breed and group level.  The seven that made it through were the Irish Setter, CH Militza’s My Cherie Amour, 15” Beagle, CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, the  Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Peace River Silverice Summer Solstice, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH J'Cobe Broxden Shark Dressed Man, Pug GCH Caper's Sirius Endeavor, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine's Deck The Halls, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH Bugaboo's CH Picture Perfect.

The dog getting all those points was the OES, Swagger.  The dog getting the Reserve award and the photo op was the Beagle, Miss P.  Is Swagger’s 12th BIS of the year big enough to make him the Number One Dog in the US?  We will have to wait to hear the rest of today’s results before we can tell you.

 Our show week got underway yesterday in York PA with the Lancaster Kennel Club show, the first the Celtic Cluster’s five shows this week. Day one’s final found judge Elizabeth Muthard in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Cerise Celtic Thunder, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessners International S’cess, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s To Russia with Love, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Sonnus Silo, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Spotted Bliss Oreo Delight, and the Briard, GCH CH Deja Vu Mia Cool As A Cucumber.

 Gathering his 23rd BIS was the nation’s Number One Dog, the Portie, Matisse. Grabbing the RBIS was the Briard, Dill. Matisse’s 24 BIS in 29 final appearances this year is the best winning percentage of any Top Ten Dog in the past two decades.

KINGS COUNTY KENNEL CLUB

Before we launch into this week’s shows we have one more report from last weekend for you. The Kings County Kennel Club had the Saturday and Sunday shows of the four day cluster in Hanford CA.

Saturday’s seven were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Castle Rock Cometogether, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Bullmastiff, GCH CH Baron Dye Of Ridgetop, the Irish Terrier, GCH CH Rockledge McCallen Of Meath, the Pekingese, GCH CH Dunkirk Imagine That, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Newtnine Crown Of Queen, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Wigglesworth Thriller. 

Judge Robert Black chose as his BIS the Golden, Chuck, and the Bichon, Queen, as his RBIS. It was the first AKC BIS for four year old Chuck. Congratulations to breeder Tiffany Wade, owners David & Debbie Ramsey, and handler Laurie-Jordan Fenner.

 Chuck, Queen, & the Irish Terrier, Peke, and Beardie would all make it back to the final ring on Sunday. They were joined by the Borzoi, GCH CH Majenkir Bookstor Vintage Glamour, and the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Alisaton BlackBird V Allure Beaulane. Judge Lewis Bayne’s top two were the Peke, Tommy, and the Doberman, Raven.

 It was also the first of the year for the Peke, Tommy, who finished 2013 with one BIS and 14 Toy Groups. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Tim Reese and owner Randy Winters.

SAN ANTONIO KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH InVolo The King of Pop 

 The San Antonio Kennel Club had the coveted Saturday & Sunday spots at the four show cluster in that Texas city. Saturday ended with judge Marilynn Ellis in the final ring with the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Pharaoh Hound, CH Farao Anubis Inferno SC, the Mastiff, GCH CH Willow Ridge Risky Business, the Miniature Bull terrier, GCH CH Dytona VIP, the Papillon, GCH CH InVolo The King of Pop, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copperridge What’s Your Dream.

 Picking up his second BIS of the stop was the Papillon, Jackson. RBIS went to the Aussie, Vivian. The wins will push Jackson all the way up to the country’s Number Three Toy Dog with three BIS and 14 Toy Groups this season.

On Sunday the Saluki, GCH CH Appalachia’s Allamyrra Hajji, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Telltale Coco Posh would join the returning Brittany, Mastiff, Mini Bull, Papillon, & Bichon in judge Maxine Beam’s final. Judge Beam would choose the largest and the smallest of them as her BIS and RBIS, the Mastiff, Kruz, and Jackson, the Papillon. In a year filled with great Working Dogs, Kruz is the Number Three Working Dog with four BIS and 12 Working Groups.

When last we visited Garden City KS we reported that the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Del Zarzoso Salvame From Afterglow, was judge Dawn Hansen’s BIS at Friday’s Garden City Kennel Club show. 

Judge Linda Scanlon had the Saturday final and her pick of the English Setter, GCH CH Stardom Country Squire Livin’ In The Limelight, the Basset Hound, CH First Class Ring In The New, the Rottweiler, CH Brush Creek’s Chances Are I’Deal CGC, the Skye Terrier, CH Royalist Son Knight I Kulbreeze, the Havanese, GCH CH TigerLily Tamaran Smoke On The Water, the aforementioned Poodle, Dino, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH PaRay’s Cimmaron Stellar. 

Going to the head of the class was the Havanese, Ernie, and the Poodle, Dino. It was the first BIS and first Toy Group for Ernie. Congratulations to breeder/owner Sheryl A Roach, co-breeders Carol T Hutton & Carolyn Hutton. 

 The Standard Poodle & the Sky were the only of Saturday’s finalists to make it to judge Patricia Hess’ BIS ring on Sunday. Rounding out the seven were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Glaciers Ringing In The New Year, the Scottish Deerhound, GCH CH Jaraluv Rain Dance CGC, the Akita, CH Mt Joys The Promise Land at Dune, the Silky Terrier, GCH CH Anjo Blu’s Once In A Blue Moon, and the Pembroke Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Coventry Day Tripper. 

The two that impressed judge Hess were the Silky and the Skye. It was the first for the two year old Silky bitch. Congratulations to breeders Joseph J Shafer & Arvilla Hieb, owner Pamela M Gates, and handler Alyssa Mosley.

As the end of the Palm Beach social season winds down the Palm Beach County Dog Fanciers Association offered exhibitors an opportunity to rub elbows with the rich and famous.  Judge Lynette Saltzman’s final on Saturday featured the Golden Retriever, GCH CH De La Vega Orange I Fabulous, the Whippet, GCH CH Karasar’s Masterpiece, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Highlander’s Rumour Has It, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Goodtime Charlie, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country Tag I’m It, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Bret D Gabriel’s Lost Art CD BN RAE RD CGC, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Sylvan Argent Pumped Up Kicks.

GCH CH Highlander’s Rumour Has It

The two dogs going to the front of the line were the Skye Terrier, Charlie, and the Siberian, Rumour.  The win, Charlie’s fourth BIS of the year, makes Charlie the nation’s Number One Terrier.

The Golden, the Pug, & the Collie would return on Sunday to try their luck with judge Gayle Bontecou.  Joining them were the Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CH Leoralee’s Baywatch MW, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Alpha’s Magic Man CGC, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Camdyn Fall From Grace, and the Xoloitzcuintli, GCH CH Bayshore Stonehaven Espiritu Isabella De Voss. 

Finishing one/two were the Pug, JJ, and the Doberman, Maynard.  It was the first BIS of the year for JJ who finished 2014 with 11 BIS and 64 Toy Groups.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Carolyn Koch and handler Esteban Farias.

WIRE'S BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE

The breakout performance of the week was pulled off by the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Garcini Rangels Rock N Rolla, who took both the big rosettes offered by the Columbia Missouri Kennel Club this weekend.

Saturday BIS judge Elizabeth Muthard preferred Rocky to the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Nightline Viking At Tanglewood, whom she preferred over the Golden Retriever, CH Forever’s All Jacked Up, the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under The Influence, the King Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the Keeshond, CH Trumpet’s No Questions Asked, and the Briard, GCH CH Deja Vu Elephant In The Room.

Sunday Rocky impressed judge Houston Clark more than did the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, who impressed judge Clark more than did the above named Golden, the aforementioned Giant, the Papillon, CH Mystery’s Question Mark, the Boston Terrier, Gunther’s Cultured Pearl, or the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH McMatt’s Autumn Breeze. 

The wins were Rocky’s first in four final appearances this year. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Leonardo Garcini, fellow breeders, Gabriel & Ivonne Rangel, and owners Dr Kevin Rogers & Jody Garcini.

SUNDAY IN VIRGINIA

The Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca’s Trade Secret, closed the Shenandoah Valley Kennel Club’s two day stop in Harrisburg VA Sunday with his fifth BIS of the year.

Trader was challenged in judge Thomas Feneis’ final by the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Sandcape Pardon Me Boys, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner’s International S’cess, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Crispy Legacy, the Japanese Chin, CH Touche’s Top Hat And Tails at Samskara, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Diva’s Bastille My Hear, and judge Feneis’ RBIS, the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Rumpus Bumpus. 

Trader is the nation’s Number Two Working Dog. We will have last weekend’s numbers tallied later today. We would not be surprised to see Trader return to the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds.

LOGANSPORT KENNEL CLUB

Our next stop is Auburn IN where the Logansport Kennel Club hosted two shows this past weekend. Day one’s final was in the hands of judge George Boulton who chose his top two from the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Stargaze'R 'N Wingfield Wait Wait Don'T Tell, The Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CH Daybreak’s Blossoms And Bows, the Bernese Mountain Dog, GCH CH Little Mtns1 Shot Deal From Windy Knob, the White Bull Terrier, CH Aragons A Perfect Storm At Ruffin, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Baliwick Honey Boo Boo, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine’s Deck the Halls, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar Steel Blu.

 He chose the Setter, Teller, as his Best and the Shar-Pei, Tinsel, as his Reserve. Eileen M Hackett Eileen M Hackett It’s the first of the year for five year old Teller. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Eileen M Hackett, co-breeders Patricia K Skol, Lois Bledron, &Kate Hanlon, and owners Don & Pat Coller.

Tinsel and the aforementioned Bull Terrier, were the only of Saturday’s finalists to make it back to judge Brian Meyer’s BIS ring on Sunday. They were joined by the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Golden Gate Dance to The Groove, the Black & Tan Coonhound, CH Foxfires Full Force Gale, the Great Pyrenees, GCH CH Rivergroves Chateau De Castelnau, the Yorkshire Terrier, GCH CH Trio’s Big Shot, and the Norwegian Buhund, CH Kyon’s Bold Norseman. 

Once again Tinsel would take the RBIS while the Yorkie, Billy, scampered away with the BIS and the big points. The win, the first BIS this year for Billy and handler Kirsten McGregor, makes him the nation’s Number One Yorkshire Terrier. Congratulations to Kirsten and breeder/owner Kim Goldfarb.

SEATTLE KENNEL CLUB

We return to our weekend wrap up with a focus on the places we have not yet visited this past week. We start out in the Pacific Northwest with the Seattle Kennel Club’s two shows. Vying for the 1000 plus points at stake on Saturday were the Spinone Italiano, CH Javal Tangerine Man, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH FoxTail's Race For The Chase, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Midnight Lady’s I’m a Good Girl I Am, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH Pine River's Show Me The Money, the Pug, GCH CH Win-Some Nirvana Black Triple Play, the Bichon Frise, CH Absolute Affinity Agati Bullet Proof, and the Belgian Tervuren, GCH CH Sky Acre's Maximum Altitude.

Dr Karen Erickson’s BIS was the Beagle JJ, and her RBIS was the Spinone, Piper.   It’s the first of the year for JJ, who finished 2013 with one BIS and Five Hound Groups.   Congratulations to breeders/owners Sheri Berndt-Smith& Darrell Smith, and handler Mike Kurtzner.

Piper, and the above named Bedlington & Pug would return to the final ring on Sunday to see judge Vincent Grosso. They were joined by the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Peace River’s Gathers No Moss at Sunstra , the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Kumi Kian Strike A Pose, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Snowdowne My Favorite Color Is Purple. Finishing one/two were the Lhasa and the Pug. 

Another first timer, the three year old Lhasa bitch was bred and is owned by Tia McLaughlin &Ann Lanterman. Congratulations to them both. We hope to have a photo for you soon.
