WINNINGEST WORKING DOG EVER!

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, this year's current Number One Dog All Breeds, is now the winningest Working Dog in AKC history. Matisse and handler Michael Scott collected their 125th career Best In Show, eclipsing the record set nearly three decades ago by the Doberman Pinscher, CH Brunswig’s Cryptonite, call name Kafka.

Today’s win came at the Greater Monroe Kennel Club show in Concord NC. On hand in Norman Kenney’s final to witness the event were the English Setter, GCH CH Stargaze'R 'N Wingfield Wait Wait Don'T Tell, the Greyhound, GCH CH GrandCru Phelps Insignia, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Broxden Shark Dressed Man, the Reserve winner, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country’s Tag I’m It, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Kan Sing’s Po-Ba-Ri at Arundina, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Blu Ridge Make Way. 

Matisse and Michael have logged a remarkable 29 BIS in 39 final appearances this year, the best winning ratio of any Top Ten Dog in the last decade. Our congratulations to Michael, breeder Donna Gottdenker and owners Milan Lint & Peggy Helming.

Judge Charlotte Clem McGowan was in Mitchell NE Friday for the Scottsbluff Kennel Club’s first of three shows this weekend. The seven dogs that made it to her final were the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Saluki, GCH CH Sundaras Here Comes The Sun, the Bernese Mountain Dog, GCH CH B Haven Sherpas Mtn Endeavor, the West Highland White Terrier, GCH CH Plum Creeks Hear Me Roar, the Pug, GCH CH Pocket's Jato Jetliner, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Merry Go Round Coach Master, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

BIS was the Brittany, Beckett, and RBIS was the Puli, Charlotte. Beckett is the country’s Number One Sporting Dog and Number Six Dog All Breeds with three BIS and 15 Sporting groups this year.

The Finger Lakes Kennel Club had the day two spot in Syracuse NY and the put judge Mike Macbeth in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Cerise Celtic Thunder, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, the Samoyed, GCH CH Pebbles Run Play It Again Ham, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Br’er Fox Philippa of Hunterston, the Pug, CH San Remo’s Valentino, the Tibetan Terrier, CH Aurora’s Welcome To The Jungle, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar’s Steel Blu.

PWD TIES WORKING DOG RECORD

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, made another entry into AKC’s record books today by winning his 124th career Best In Show at today’s Columbia Kennel Club show in Concord NC. The win ties the record for most BIS by a Working Dog set by the Doberman Pinscher, CH Brunswig’s Cryptonite.

Challenging Matisse for judge Francine Schwartz’ attention was the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Robin Crest Edelmarke Investigator, the RBIS, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner's International S'Cess, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Japanese Chin, CH Chindale’s Anything She Wants, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine’s Deck the halls, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Wonderland’s Force of Nature. 

 Matisse is this year's Number One Dog All Breeds with 28 BIS and 38 Working Groups.

The biggest points of the week are in Syracuse NY where the Onondaga Kennel Association, the Finger Lakes Kennel Club, the North Country Kennel Club, and the Central New York Kennel Club are teaming for four shows. The OKA took the Thursday spot, putting judge Tim Robbins in the final ring.

The seven dogs that made the day one final were the Labrador Retriever, Celtias Riverdance, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Valkerie I’m All That Neocles, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Rivendells Tinker Toy, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the Keeshond, GCH CH Night Winds Little Ricky, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar’s Steel Blu. 

Taking home the big points was the Beagle, Miss P. Getting the Reserve award was the Shih Tzu, Rocket. It’s the first BIS for Miss P who has been knocking on the door for a while, collecting four RBIS in her previous 11 final attempts. Congratulations to breeder Lori D Crandlemire , owners Eddie Dziuk, Lori & Kaitlyn Crandlemire, & Brody Cavanaugh, and handler Will Alexander.

CHIHUAHUA BIS IN NC OPENER

The Columbia Kennel Club opened our show week today in Concord NC where exhibitor gathered for the four show Speedway Classic of the Carolinas. Judge Peter Frost had the day one final and his pick of the English Springer Spaniel, CH Legacy Random Titleist, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner's International S'Cess, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Highlander’s Rumour Has It, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Sonnus Filho (Sanchez), the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing’s Po-Ba-Ri at Arundina, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Xtra Style. 

CH Legacy Random Titleist 

His top two were the Chihuahua, Sonnito, and the Springer, Griffen. Sonnito now has five BIS and 11 Toy Groups this year. Three of the BIS and seven of the Toy Groups have come this month and that’s why we named him a Dog2Watch.

Our last report from the weekend comes in from Bremerton WA were Pacific Northwest exhibitors gathered for the Peninsula Dog Fanciers Club’s two shows. Sunday’s edition ended with judge Loraine Boutwell in the final ring with the Weimaraner, GCH CH Diamond MK The Eagle Has Landed, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Foxtail’s Race For The Chase, the Akita, GCH CH Sondaisa Fyre When Ready, the Miniature Bull terrier, GCH CH Cambria’s Kid ‘n Play, the Pug, GCH CH Prima Lucca Wishing On A Shoboat Tu, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Merry Go Round Steppin Lively At Galliyard, and the Belgian Tervuren, GCH CH Sky Acres Maximum Altitude.

Best went to the Beagle, JJ, and Reserve to the Weimaraner, JD. It was the first for the 19 month old dog. Congratulations to breeders/owners Sheri Berndt-Smith & Darrell Smith and handler Mike Kurtzner.

SKYE TAKES BRONX COUNTY KC

 In the Northeast this week the doggy action was in Edison NJ where the Bronx County Kennel Club finished up the three day visit with judge Inge Semenschin’s final. Her seven hopefuls were the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner’s International S’Cess, the Newfoundland, CH Cypress Bay’s Big Sur, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Goodtime Charlie, the Japanese Chin, CH Touche’s Top Hat And Tails At Samsaka, the Standard Poodle, Hillwood Dassin Poopin Up Roses, and the Bearded Collie, CH Fantasia’s Joanna’s Gift.

Finishing one/two were the Skye, Charlie, and the Bloodhound, Nathan. Charlie is AKC’s Number One Terrier six BIS and 24 Terrier Groups.

We turn our attention now to the West Coast where the northern shore of San Francisco Bay was the place you could find some of AKC’s top dogs this week.  Judge Anne Katona closed the four day set with the Oakland Kennel Club’s Sunday final.

The seven dogs that stayed to the end to see her were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Simpatico Equal Justice, the Basenji, GCH CH Jasiri-Sukari Win Tin Tin, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor’s High Flyin’ Gladiator, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Absolutely Talk of the Town, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Sharbelle Greg-Mar International Boy, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline’s Unit of Measure, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Collecting his second top prize of the stop was the OES, Swagger. The Keeshond, Cubit, added an RBIS to the BIS he won at Thursday’s opener.  It was Swagger’s 17th BIS in 34 trips to the final ring this year.  The win puts Swagger within 900 points of the game leader, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse. 

FIRST TIMER IN FORT WORTH

Our next stop is Fort Worth TX where the Fort Worth Kennel Club wrapped their two day stop with James Noe in the final ring with the Golden Retriever, GCH CH. Emery’s In The Midnight Hour, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Mastiff, GCH CH Willow Ridge Risky Business, the Lakeland Terrier, GCH CH Brocair’s HRH Prince Harry, the King Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey’s Moon River.

The Lakeland, Harry, strutted off with the Best In Show while the Toy Spaniel, Prosperity, collected the Reserve award. It was the first BIS and first Terrier Group for 21 month old Harry. Congratulations to breeders Marcella Mitchell & Danielle Green, owners Kevin & Lisa Rogan, and handlers Ivonne & Gabriel Rangel.

Our Monday Morning Mop Up begins with the Jackson Tennessee Dog Fanciers Association who closed the four day set in their hometown with their show Sunday.

Judge David Kirkland had the BIS honors and his pick of the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Pouch Coves Seabrook Enough Said, the Scottish Terrier, CH Peabar Goodness Gracious, the Pug, GCH CH Capers Sirius Endeavor, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, CH Kosar Striking Back Of Bridgelady. 

Judge Kirkland went with the Poodle, Flame, as his BIS and the Newfoundland, Jordan, as his RBIS. It was the second consecutive BIS for Flame and handler Sarah Perchick and their tenth of the year.

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, added another BIS to his record seeking resume today, taking the top prize at the Fayetteville Kennel Club show in Raleigh NC.

Joining Matisse in Betty Regina Leininger’s final were the English Cocker Spaniel, CH Edgewood First'N Foremost, the 15” Beagle, CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s To Russia With Love, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Jade East Mission Into Space, and her RBIS, the German Shepherd Dog, CH Woodside’s Megabucks. 

Matisse heads home with four of the five BIS from this week’s Tarheel Cluster, bringing his 2014 resume to 28 BIS and 37 Working Groups. Matisse needs just one more BIS to tie the Working group record of 124 BIS set by the Doberman Pinscher, CH Brunswig’s Cryptonite.

GCH CH Foxtail’s Race For The Chase, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Peace River’s Gathers No Moss at Sunstra, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH First Class Willow Wind The Phoenix, the Havanese, GCH CH Peluito’s Papi Chulo, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Absolute’s Affinity Agape Bullet Proof, and the Belgian Tervuren, GCH CH Sky Acres Maximum Altitude.

SMOOTH FOX BIS IN CALIFORNIA

West Coast exhibitors had their choice of shows in the San Francisco Bay area town of Vallejo or in Bremerton WA, a 16 mile ferry ride from Seattle. It was the Oakland Kennel Club hosting Saturday in Vallejo and judge John Wade commanding the final ring. GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect The seven dogs hoping for the big points were the Gordon Setter, GCH CH Blazen Spellbound’s Wonder Woman, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH X’Plorer’s Destiny Done It, the Akita, GCH CH Mojo’s Continuation of a Myth, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Absolutely Talk of the Town, the Maltese, GCH CH Richelieu Valentino, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline’s Unit of Measure, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Best went to the Smooth Fox, Taylor, Reserve to the OES, Swagger. Taylor has only been shown sporadically these past two years, but has still collected two BIS and ten Terrier Groups this year, good enough to make Taylor this year’s Number Four Terrier.

FORTWORTH KC DAY ONE

Texas does everything big and Saturday’s Fort Worth Kennel Club was no exception, boasting over 2000 entries. Judge Anne Savory Bolus chose her top two from the Parti-Color Cocker Spaniel , CH Monthaven’s The Birdcage, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Siberian Husky, CH Antara’s Nothing to Sneeze At, the Lakeland Terrier, GCH CH Brocairs HRH Prince Harry, the King Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH R-Lee Sparkle Plenty, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Reverie Cameo.

Finishing one/two were the Aussie, Cameo, and the Toy Spaniel, Prosperity. It’s the first BIS for the two year old bitch. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Leon Goetz and co-breeder Mary Ann Magness.

There were more than 2000 dogs entered at Saturday’s New Brunswick Kennel Club show in Edison NJ. The seven who made it to Bruce Schwartz final were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Cerise Sentinel, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner's International S'Cess, the Siberian Husky, CH Davik’s Snowstorm Gussit, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the Pekingese, GCH CH Pequest General Tsao, the Bichon Frise, CH Cher Ami's Toast With Remy Martin, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical's My Turn CGC CGN HIC.

Going to the head of the line was the Bloodhound, Nathan. Following close behind was the Skye, Charlie. Nathan is the country’s Number One Hound with three BIS and 13 Hound Groups.

JACKSON TENNESSEE DFA DAY ONE

The hometown Jackson Tennessee Dog Fanciers Association had the favored Saturday spot in the four show set and judge Betty-Anne Stenmark had a spectacular seven from which to choose her BIS & RBIS. They were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under The Influence, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Pouch Cove’s Seabrook Enough Said, the Scottish Terrier, CH Peabar Goodness Gracious, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Daybar For Your Eyes Only. 

GCH CH Telltale American Ride 

 Her Best was the Poodle, Flame, and her Reserve was the Springer, Randy. Flame is the nation’s Number One Non-Sporting Dog and Number Four Dog All Breeds with nine BIS and 24 Non-Sporting Groups.
