IT'S THE COCKER AGAIN IN ALABAMA

GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill 

In Columbiana AL the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, made it two it a row, taking the top prize at the Birmingham Kennel Club show. 

GCH CH Derby’s Toast with Gusto 

Challenging Alan for judge Fred Bassett’s attention were the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Celtic Lores Moonlight And Magic CGC, the RBIS, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, GCH CH Derby’s Toast with Gusto, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Hampton Court Broxden What In Carnation, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country’s Tag I’m It, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Kimik’s Who Dunnit, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Kosmar Striking Back Of Bridgelady. 

The win, Alan’s second in 12 trips to the final ring this year, makes him the Number Six Sporting Dog.

GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill 

The Tuscaloosa Kennel Club kicked off the show week and a four day set in Columbiana AL on Thursday. Judge Ken Buxton had the day one final and his pick of the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Shalomar Maestros Masterpiece, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Phillmar Superman, the CH Shaireab Bayleigh Wolverine, the Maltese, GCH CH Euphoria Rhapsody Locked In A Tower, the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Sundancer Foxy Lady, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Country Squire.

He chose the Cocker as his Best In Show and the Corgi as his Reserve. It was the first BIS of the year for the Cocker, Alan. Congratulations to breeders/owners Genea White Jones & Bruce Van Deman, owners Carolee Douglas & Jackie Beaudoin, and handler Linda Pitt.

The nation’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Hitimes What the Inferno, started his week with a Group One at the limited breed Kansas Toy Dog Club show in Valley Center KS. He followed that win with a BIS at Friday’s Salina Kennel Club show over the Number One Dog, the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Lockenhaus Rumor Has It v Kenlyn, who took the RBIS.

 Joining Danny and Rumor in judge Norm Patton’s final were the Number Four Dog, the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Dezperado's Hallelujah CA CGC, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH First Class Willow Wind The Phoenix, and the Chow Chow, GCH CH Eastern-Magic Fly Me Safe. 

The field is starting to spread out as we enter the second quarter of the season. Danny, now with ten BIS and 26 Toy groups, trails Rumor by about 8500 points, but leads the Number Three Dog, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, by around 3500 points. We’ll keep our eye on Kansas this weekend.

GCH CH Legacy Random Titleist 

First in with results today is the Cheshire Kennel Club who opened a three day set in West Springfield MA. The seven dogs making the day one final were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Legacy Random Titleist, the Scottish Deerhound, GCH CH Hobarra’s I Dreamed a Dream, the Mastiff, GCH CH Goldleaf's Trouble Coming CGC, the Airedale Terrier, GCH CH Joval Sweet Time, the Pekingese, GCH CH Pequest General Tso, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Iacta Alea Est De La Bete, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Kyshara’s Pot of Gold.

CHINTIMINI KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH Imaginabull’s First Edition 

Our last weekend report comes in from Albany OR where the Chintimini Kennel Club hosted two shows. On Saturday the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Imaginabull’s First Edition, was judge Dr Niksa Lemo BIS. The doctor also liked the Tibetan Mastiff, GCH CH Dreamcatcher Major Victory of Loki CGC, whom he named his RBIS.

Rounding out Saturday’s final were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Sandpiper's Let Freedom Ring, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Jakar Pamir Anam Cara Summer Storm, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH North Well Vivian Jp Rose Queen, the Bulldog, GCH CH Wilson's I'm Your Handyman, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Brocade Lil Deuce Coupe Barjen. 

Saxon first caught our attention when he swept all five Terrier Groups at January’s huge Rose City Classic in Portland OR. Sunday’s win was his second BIS in as many weekends and his second in nine trips to the final ring this year.

The San Joaquin Valley, once the world’s breadbasket, was the site of this past weekend’s Kern County Kennel Club show in Bakersfield CA. Saturday ended with judge Judy Webb in the final ring with the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, GCH CH Javahill Surf2 An 8 Second Ride BN RN, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Vin-Melca’s Daggarwood Delight, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Excelsia’s He Thinks He’s Wonderful, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, GCH CH Bryr Rose Matisse, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Hitimes What the Inferno, the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Rufkin’s Hunk Of Burnin Love, and the Australian Cattle Dog, GCH CH Kokopelli's SoBe It.

Finishing one/two were the Elkhound, Duffy, and the Pom, Danny. It was the second BIS in four final attempts this year for Duffy and legendary breeder/owner/handler Pat Trotter.

Duffy and Pat would be back on Sunday to see BIS judge Michael Dougherty along with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Foxboro N Shardust Authentic, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Bigluv’s Lady Isabella RA CGC, the Irish Terrier, CH Rockledge Ms Lexi Of Meath, the Pom, Danny, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline Unit of Measure, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Bon Idee’s Made You Look CGC.

Two dogs got very lucky in Las Vegas NV at this weekend’s Silver State Kennel Club’s shows. The first, the Scottish Terrier, CH Round Town Queen Of Hearts Of Maryscot, was judge Allan Brown’s BIS at Saturday’s show.

Queenie was challenged for the win by the Weimaraner, GCH CH Silveroaks Surfcity Shades Of Grey, the RBIS, the Ibizan Hound, GCH CH Paradise Bette Davis Eyes, the Boxer, GCH CH Hijinx This Is How I Roll, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Lugari Holiday Rocco, the Shiba Inu, GCH CH Morningstar’s Dances With Wolves, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Covy-Tucker Hills Bearly Legal. 

It was the first BIS for Queenie, daughter of the 2009 Number One Dog All breeds, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot. Congratulations to breeder/owner Amelia Musser, co-breeders Mary O'Neal & Anstamm Kennels, and handler Gabriel Rangel.

The Ibizan Hound, the Shiba, Inu, & the GSD would return to the final ring on Sunday to try their luck with judge Thora Brown. They were joined by the Parti-Colored Cocker Spaniel, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Marienburg’s Spec Ops Commando, the Lakeland Terrier, GCH CH Brocair’s HRH Prince Harry, the RBIS, and the Maltese, GCH CH Sands R’s More Than A Crush.

We had two dogs win their first BIS of the year this weekend at the Brazos Valley Kennel Club’s two shows in Navasota TX. On Saturday judge Sonny Ambrosio named the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Promenade Ring O Fire, his top dog.

 Also asking for consideration were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Emery’s White Out, the Saluki, GCH CH Appalachia's Allamyrra Hajji, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, GCH CH Derby’s Toast with Gusto, the American Staffordshire Terrier, CH Dotcom’s Boardwalk Alcala, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Overtop Niort, and the RBIS, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Just a Little Crush. 

Ringo becomes just the second Smooth Coat Chihuahua to win a BIS this year and just the third to win a Toy Group this year. Congratulations to breeder/owner Linda Hughes and handler Brooke Young.

Our next stop is Mitchel NE where the Scottsbluff Kennel Club wrapped their three day set on Sunday with judge Roger Hartinger in the final ring. The seven dogs he considered were the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Iceage v Tum-Tums Vriendjes, the Samoyed, GCH CH T-Snow Stars I Am The Answer, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH First Class Willow Wind The Phoenix, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the Keeshond, GCH CH Trumpet’s No Questions Asked, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Thunderhill’s Apple Bottom Jeans.

Picking up the BIS was the Sheltie, Bindi. Collecting the RBIS was the PBGV, Iceage. It was Bindi’s second BIS of the set and her third of the year.

COLUMBIA MISSOURI KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH Cherry Creek Confetti became only the second Treeing Walker Coonhound ever to win an AKC all breed BIS, taking home the top prize at Saturday’s Columbia Missouri Kennel Club show in Gray Summit MO. 

On hand to witness judge Douglas Holloway make the award were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Wolfholic’s Extraordinary, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Hampton Court’s Monte Cristo, the RBIS, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Char's Seattle Slew For Triple Crown, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Reigate Fire Away, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Cuttingacres Rockabilly Roadtrip To Affinity.

It was the first for the Coonhound, Fergie. Congratulations to breeders Gabby Harvey & Donna Harvey, owner/handler Amanda Alexander, and owner Scott Houston.

Six of Saturday’s finalists would return Sunday to try their luck with BIS judge Rita Holloway. They were joined by the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv’s Sultry Sensation. Judge Holloway’s BIS was the Pom, Huey, and her RBIS was the Wire Fox, Cristo.

We start our Monday Morning Mop Up with this week’s most impressive performance. The Pekingese, GCH CH Pequest General Tso, picked up the Best In Show at Sunday’s North Country Kennel Club show in Syracuse NY, his third of the stop.

The seven dogs hoping to catch his eye were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Highmark Rockin Newyearseve at Glenbrook RN, the Pharaoh Hound, GCH CH Farao Anubis Inferno BN RN SC, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Cambria’s Above and Beyond, the West Highland White Terrier, GCH CH Ridgmars Just Joking Around, the Papillon, GCH CH InVolo Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, the French Bulldog, GCH CH JCRV-Klasse Warrior Raising The Banner, and the Border Collie, GCH CH C Amo Jin Of Fu You Yuan Kennel.

We have a natural affinity for the short-legged breeds. We are, after all, rather short ourselves. Unfortunately, many of them get over looked in the BIS ring. One dog that has been forcing the judges to look at him this month is the Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CH Raydachs Ride My Ducati Sw. Ducati was judge Dr Richard Hilderman’s BIS at Saturday’s Greater Monroe Kennel Club show in Concord NC.

The seven that made it to judge Sandy Gunn’s final were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Doc's Greyborn North Star Of Acadia, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Stonewall Jackson, the Boxer, GCH CH Brisbane N" Blue Monday's Diamonds Are Decadent", the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Vaca Valleys Bold Ruler For Frajaec, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Foxwyn A Likely Story, the Coton de Tulear, GCH CH Mi-Toi’s Burberry At Justincredible CM, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Collinswood Sparks Fly.
