We have been up to our eyeballs in Westminster excitement, but we do have other results for you as well. Many of the top dogs here made a stop in Indianapolis IN before joining the New York crowd. GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor

The nation’s Number One Pug, GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor . decided to forgo Westminster and stay in Indianapolis Sunday to collect the big rosette at the Hoosier Kennel Club show. Mildred Bryant’s other options were the above named Springer, the Basenji. GCH CH Klassic's Slam Dunk, the Boxer, GCH CH R And G's Mystical Dancer, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Glen Oaks Firekeeper's Gambler, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Cam's Derringer.

It’s the first BIS this year for Rufus and owner/handler Linda Rowell. Congratulations to Linda, who co-owns Rufus with John Rowell and breeders Phil & Carol Fisher.

WESTMINSTER CHANGES FOR 2013

A major surprise to all dog lovers. The Westminster Kennel club has announced major changes in format & venue. Below is their press release

On the eve of its annual show, The Westminster Kennel Club announced today a number of changes for its 2013 show, including an additional venue for breed judging, a larger entry limit, and the expansion of dogs eligible for competition.

Breed judging and benching will take place at Piers 92/94 in New York City, located at West 55th Street and the West Side Highway, both days of the show, Monday and Tuesday. Group and Best In Show judging, as well as the Junior Showmanship Finals, will still

be held at Madison Square Garden in the evening.

The entry limit will be increased to 3,200 dogs (up from 2,000 in 2012) and will include competition in the classes for dogs that have not yet earned their championships, but have won major points. In addition, Best of Breed winners of National Breed Club specialties will be invited to pre-enter. The top five dogs in each breed in breed point standings will continue to be invited to pre-enter, as in the past.

The 2013 Westminster Kennel Club All Breed Dog Show will be held on February 11-12.

The Westminster Kennel Club has been held at Madison Square Garden in all but a few years of its existence. The first Westminster shows were held at Gilmore's Gardens in 1878-79 & which was the forerunner of Madison Square Garden. Westminster has since become one of only three entities to hold its event in all four iterations of Madison Square Garden in New York (along with the circus and the National Horse Show, neither of which is currently being held at the Garden today).

"We take great pride in our relationship with the world's greatest sporting arena," said Westminster President Peter R. Van Brunt in announcing the changes. "We are happy that these changes will help us continue to produce the greatest dog show in the world for the dogs, the people in our sport, the spectators who come to the show, and the millions more who watch us on television.

In the past two years, a renovation project at the Garden has reduced the available space for benching at Westminster. Moving to the Piers for daytime judging will expand the space available once again for benching, allow more entries, and continue to provide the spectators with the opportunity to see the dogs up close and visit with the owners and handlers.

It was the Hoosier Kennel Club’s turn to host in Indianapolis IN, but the result was the same as the Standard Poodle juggernaut, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, showed no signs of flagging, London and handler Ann Rairigh finished the day with the consecutive BIS. Joining London and handler Ann Rairigh in Michael Sosne’s final were the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Samoyed, Sir Aston Martin of England, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, the Pug to be named later, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch.

It’s the eighth BIS this year for the 2011 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. This is going to be one spectacular Westminster.

Several of the dogs bound for Westminster made a stop at today’s Central Indiana Kennel Club show in Indianapolis IN to pick up some extra points on their way to New York. Gene Blake’s final seven were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endaevor, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Fantasy's Law Of Attraction.

He won the opener in Indianapolis in 2011 and the Standard Poodle, London, added lucky BIS number seven to his 2012 resume. Did we tell you that he left Indianapolis last year with two big rosettes?

WWW: THE HERDING GROUP

GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch

We conclude our Whom to Watch at Westminster (WWW) with the Herding Group. The Herding Group this year was one of the closest races with two dogs going all the way to the wire. The Number One Herding Dog of 2011 (in the over all number of dogs defeated) is the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch. Capi was the Number One Herding Dog & the Number Two Dog All Breeds in his native Mexico before joining the US’ most celebrated Shepherd handler, the legendary Jimmy Moses and collecting 27 BIS & 105 Herding Groups. Capi was bred by Carlos Navarro who co-owns Capit with Jimmy, D Stern, J Lange, & M Deschamps.

GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins

The Number One Herding Dog in Herding Groups won is the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins, the winningest Beardie of all time. Roy and handler Cliff Steele also won 27 BIS, but won seven more groups than Capi. Roy was bred by and is owned by Larry & Angela Stein, Lesley Woodcock, & Robert Lamm, and co-owned by Ellen Charles & Susan Ross. Alas, we won’t get to see a re-match at the Garden as Roy is not entered.

GCH CH Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder

The good news is we have more Herding Dogs to fill our picks. The Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder, is handled by Old English icon Jere Marder. She & “Elvis” rolled to 11 BIS & 71 Herding Groups in 2011 finishing as the Number Three Herding Dog. Elvis’ fan club includes co-breeder Gail Radke, and co-owner Kay Richardson.

GCH CH Aubrey’s Tails of Mystery

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey’s Tails of Mystery, spent much of the year under most people’s radar, mine included, until late in the year when Libby and handler Sherri Hurst started coming on strong winning two of her four BIS in the last quarter and finishing with a flourish taking a Group Three at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (AENC). Libby’s 2011 record includes four BIS, BISS at the National Specialty of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America, and 31 Herding Group top prizes. Libby was bred by Shawn Michael, & Cynthia & Vincent Savioli, and is owned by the Saviolis.

GCH CH Rocheuses Me and My Shadow

Rounding out our picks is the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Rocheuses Me and My Shadow. Casper and handler had an impressive enough 2011 with six BIS & 29 Group 1s. He finished 2011 with a Group 4 at the AENC and already has two BIS this year. Casper was bred by Douglas W Johnson & Karen Brown, is owned by Frank & Corrine Dreyfus & M Johnson, and handled by Heather Johnson.

We have written here that the Standard Poodle is the epitome of the show dog and this year we have more than one contender in the variety. GCH CH Jaset's Satisfaction finished the year as the Number Six Dog All Breeds, with 34 BIS & 91 Group Ones and has been on a roll since taking home the $50,000 check from December’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, adding six BIS to his tally in January. London was bred by Sandra Tompkins & Chris Bailey, is owned Beth Harris, Michele Molnar, & Jamie Danburg, and handled Ann Rairigh.

GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore

The Number One Non-Sporting Dog in 2011 was the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore. Ally was Best Puppy at the 2009 Poodle Club of America (PCA) National Specialty and was BISS at the 2010 PCA National. She finished 2011 as the Number Four Dog All Breeds with 47 BIS & 109 Non-Sporting Groups. Nine of the BIS were with interim handler Taffee McFadden who stepped in for regular handler Tim Brazier who is convalescing from bypass surgery. Ally was bred by L'Dyne Wicker Brennan & Debra Ferguson Jones, and is owned by Toni Sosnoff & Martin Sosnoff.

CH Fantastico da Maya

The black Standard Poodle, CH Fantastico da Maya, is literally a dark horse candidate. New on the AKC show scene, Brazil’s Number One Dog in 2010, has already collected two BIS in the last month. Fantastico was bred by and is owned by Zuleika Torrealba and handled by Christian Manelopoulos.

GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy

Only one, Standard Poodle, will show up on Monday evening to see Group judge Randy Garren. We think that the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy. Drummer is handled by Scott Sommer, who has held the lead of the Westminster BIS winner twice, including the Bichon, JR, CH Special Times Just Right, in 2001. In 2011 Drummer was the Number One Bichon, the Number Three Non-Sporting Dog, & the Number Ten Dog All Breeds with 25 big rosettes & 92 Non-Sporting Groups.

GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby

Handler Kaz Hosaka is known to many as the man with the white Toy Poodles, but Kaz is also the breeder & handler of the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby, 2011’s Number One Miniature Poodle. With ten BIS & 59 Group firsts. Sugar Baby & Kaz already have two big rosettes this year. Sugar Baby is owned by Ron Scott & Debbie Burke.

GCH CH Spotlight's Ruffian

The Dalmatian, GCH CH Spotlight's Ruffian, emerged as force in the last half of 2011 winning four BIS & 41 Non-Sporting Groups. Ian was bred by Connie Wagner, is owned by Jim Lyons & Barbara Lyons, and handled by Michael Scott.

GCH CH Downhome Hi-Tech Innovator

We now have results from this past weekend’s two shows of the Hobbs New Mexico Kennel Club. Saturday’s final was called by James Frederickson. His options were the GCH CH Clussexx Last Lion, the Harrier, GCH CH Downhome Hi-Tech Innovator, the Boxer, GCH CH Breho fortuity Shared Treasure, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Check Point Charlie of Celtic Odyssey, the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Pineridge Anji’s St Cecilia, the Chinese Shar-Pei, Jade East Do You Know the Way to San Jose, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Pennant.

He was the Hound group winner at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in December and now has two B IS this year. That’s why the Harrier, Chet, is one of our Hound Group picks for Westminster.

GCH CH Royaile Rocksprings Dafydd

Sunday Chet and the aforementioned Boxer & Shar-Pei, were all back to see BIS judge Jon Cole along with the Welsh Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Royaile Rocksprings Dafydd, the Norfolk Terrier, GCCH CH Max-Well’s Rainbow, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Miletree Northern Star at Shirmont, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Rocheuses Me and My Shadow of Cornus.

His choice for Best In Show was the Springer, Dafydd. It’s his first of the hear. Congratulations to breeder/owner Nora Carlton, co-breeder, owners Katherine Goodrich, and handler Christina Secord..

The show weekend ended yesterday in Phoenix AZ with the second show of the Lost Dutchman Kennel Club. Sandy wheat selected her BIS from the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration With Traddles, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek's Kiss And Tell, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Tamarin Top Banana, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Fortune's All Eyez On Me, and the Pembroke welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Allure at Wyndstar.

Best went to Seymour, the Clumber. Seymour is another globe trotting canine, arriving in the US from Colombia where he was a multi BIS winner. This is his first AKC BIS. Congratulations to breeders Douglas Johnson, Jeanne Haverick, Jamie Hubbard & Sheila Musaeus, owners A & P Jaramillo, M Capone & J Haverick, and handler Jorge Olivera.

COME TO A GARDEN PARTY

Madison Square Garden

Indianapolis IN went all out for Sunday’s Super Bowl, but this week it will dog fanciers enjoying all the newly constructed hotels and restaurants. The Central Indiana Kennel Club & the Hoosier Kennel Club will take turns hosting a total of four shows in America’s Heartland beginning Thursday. The four shows are a convenient way station for many of the Westminster bound dogs and offer exhibitors a crack at some big point totals with entries likely to be between 1500 and 2000 at each show. The only other venue to offer all breed shows this coming weekend is Midland TX where the West Texas Kennel Club will host two shows.

We will follow the New York Giants back home and will be at the Meadowlands in Secaucus NJ on Sunday to view some of the Westminster warm ups. We and our Best In Show Daily partners will be all over the New York area covering this action. Don’t forget to join us on Monday and Tuesday evenings for our annual Garden Party, a live on line chat room, during the broadcast of the evening group & BIS judging. The First time we heard about the Westminster Kennel Club show was 1957. The winner that year was a Toy Dog, the Pekingese, CH Chik T'Sun of Caversham. Our picks for Whom to Watch at Westminster (WWW) in the Toy Group next week include a Pekingese, last year’s Top toy Dog.

GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, is owned and handled by David Fitzpatrick, a man who holds almost every record a Pekingese breeder can aspire to, Malachy and David finished 2011 as the Number Two Dog All Breeds with50 BIS & 119 Toy groups. Malachy was bred by Jim & Jean Smith of England and is owned by David, Iris Love, & Sandra Middlebrooks.

GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari

The Number Two Toy Dog in 2011 was another import, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari. Joey is from the Netherlands where he was the Number One Affenpinscher in history. Here in the US Joey & handler Ernesto Lara picked up 33 BIS & 111 Toy Groups during the past season climbing all the way to the Number Five spot in the All Breed rankings. Joey is currently the Number One Toy Dog with six BIS so far this year. Joey was bred by Mieke Cooymans, who co-owns Joey with Zoila Truesdale.

GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare

Close behind Joey this year is the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, who has five BIS on her 2012 resume. Classie made it all the way to the Number 12 Dog All Breeds last season., collecting 21 big rosettes along with 73 Group 1s. Classie was bred by Carole Ann Mohr-Rio, and is owned by Leah Monte & Armando angel Bello, who does all the handling.

GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor

Rounding out our picks is the Pug, GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor. Rufus & Owner/handler Linda Rowell had 11 BIS and 43 Toy Groups last year. Linda handled one of the eight Pugs to win a Westminster Toy Group, taking home the first place in 1989 with her Pug, CH Rowell's Solo Moon Rising, back in 1989. Linda co-owns Rufus with John Rowell and breeders Phil & Carol Fisher.

One place we didn’t visit over the weekend was Pine Bluff AR where the Southeast Arkansas Kennel Club hosted two shows this past weekend. On Saturday the seven who saw BIS judge James White were the Brittany, GCH CH Melridge Stir N' It Up, the Pharaoh Hound, Faouziah's Faramir, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria's Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Skyscot's Texas Hold' Em, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Bar-Net Rocky Road Of Samron, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Bar-None Fabulosity, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Get Over It.

Best went to the Pom, Rocky. Just 21 months old, Rocky has been a regular in the Toy Group final four over the past several months. This is his first BIS. Congratulations to breeder/owner Norma Smart, owners Lavonne Beard& Pat Barnett, and handler Jana Klein.

Sunday Rocky was back to see Keke Kahn along with the same Kuvasz & Standard Poodle, the Golden Retriever, GCH CH My Buddy's Boppity-Bop Blue Moon RN, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Field’s Bahama Sands, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Alpine’s Ring of Fire, and the Finnish Lapphund, CH Sugarok Casanova. Her BIS was the Whippet, Tawny. Tawny & handler Amanda Files have sprinted to the front of this year’s competitors with four BIS already this year.

Yesterday the Lawrenceville Kennel Club closed the set with Virginia Lyne’s final. The seven staying to the end were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor High Flyin Gladiator, the Bedlington Terrier, Wrightwyns Power Play, the Pug, GCH CH Kensheis And That’s The Way It Is, the Standard Poodle, CH Fantastico Da Maya, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Equinox Ad Astra.

It was the Rottweiler, Pilot. Powering his was to his first BIS of the year. Pilot and handler Perry Payson ended 2011 with four BIS & 27 Working Groups and was the breed winner at December’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Congratulations to Perry and breeder/owner Wendi Lewellen.

Californian exhibitors were in the Central Valley for today’s Sun Maid Kennel Club of Fresno show. Mareth Kipp’s final seven were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Silhouette’s LifeInTheFastLane, the Whippet, GCH CH Endeavor’s White Roses on Nysa Hill, the Black Russian Terrier, CH Blesk Nochi Iz Chigasovo, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Alpine’s Highwayman, the Pomeranian, CH CR Chase What Matters, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH PaRay Wicked.

She chose the AmStaff, Jelly, as her Best. Jelly was BISS at the 2011 Staffordshire Club of America National Specialty and collected 11 all breed Bests & 47 Terrier Groups. The St Joseph Kennel Club treated their Missouri hometown to two all breed shows this weekend. On Saturday Marjorie Underwood considered the Flat-Coated Retriever CH Beacon’s Jesse James II, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Horton Bay’s Just Wild About, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, CH Cumhill Hellraiser, the Pug, CH House Poory Jp Belaire’s headline, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogleflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder.

Day one went to the OES, Elvis. Elvis was the Number Three Herding Dog in 2011 with 11 BIS & 71 Herding Groups. This is his first BIS of 2012. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Jere Marder, co-breeder Gail Radke, and co-owner Kay Richardson.

Sunday Dr Robert Indeglia saw the ASCOB Cocker Spaniel, CH Gazon Solar Eclipse, the above named Afghan Hound, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Francesca’s House of Blues, the Smooth Fox Terrier, High Mountain Everso in Command, the Brussels Griffon, CH Endor and Donadru’s New Moon, the aforementioned Bichon, and the Briard, CH Deja Vu Mia Cool as a Cucumber.

It was the Afghan Hound, Wally, picking up his first BIS of 2012. Wally and handler Mark Bettis had four BIS and 28 Hound Groups in limited showing last year. Congratulations to breeders/owners Jay Hafford & James Blanchard, owners Debbie Rogers & JW Rogers, and handler Mark Bettis.

His options were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH cH Cerise Tender Is The Night, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, the Samoyed, GCH CH McMagic Candied Ham of Pebbles’Run, the West Highland White Terrier, GCH CH Blythefell Fergus, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Kimro’s Dora The Explorer, the Schipperke, GCH CH De LaMer Ping Flamingo, and the Border Collie, GCH CH Bo-Clyde’s Take One.

Best was the Foxhound, Jewel. Jewel is off to a great start this year with three BIS.

We hear from West Springfield MA that the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, has grabbed both of the Great Barrington Kennel Club’s two BIS this weekend. Today Thomas Parrotti selected Joey out of a seven that included the Irish Setter, GCH CH Northwinds First Reign, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Kuluta Along the Watch Tower, the Akita, GCH CH Hikay’s Witch with Attitude, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Maverston’s Double Dutch, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Bowhunter de la Bette, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Propwash Reckon.

Team Joey has got to feel good going into the Westminster week. What surprises are in store?

The weeks before the Westminster Kennel Club show are always a media feeding frenzy. We have already done three interviews and expect to do more in the next few days. We have heard from The Westminster KC press office that half of the dogs entered this year have not yet submitted their Online Media Information forms. These forms are critical for WKC to respond to the world wide press’ request for information. Just about every town in the US will run a local story about the local dog being shown at the garden this year. Those Online Media Information forms are the foundation for those interviews.

We are Terrier people and that makes our picks for Whom to Watch at Westminster (WWW) in the Terrier Group all the more difficult. We do not profess an expertise in even our own breeds, just an admiration for those dogs which have won twice as many Westminster BIS than any other group.

GCH CH Steele Your Heart

The Wire Fox, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, finished the year with a bang, grabbing a big BIS at the Central Florida Kennel Club in Orlando FL two days before winning the Terrier Group At December’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. The two wins made Eira the Number One Terrier of 2011 with 17 BIS & 51 Terrier Groups. Eira was bred bys Torie Steele, is owned by Torie and Mary Ann Roma, and handled by Gabriel Rangel.

GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks a Peek

The Terrier that was Number One Terrier for much of last year, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks a Peek, was the 2011 Westminster Kennel Club Terrier Group winner. Adam did not pursue as aggressive a show schedule in 2011 as many dogs, but still gathered 21 BIS & 61 Terrier Group wins. Adam was bred by Joan Taggart & Mark Taggart, owned by James W Smith, and handled by Eddie Boyes.

GCH CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman

The above 2011 rankings are based on the number of dogs defeated, all breeds, but If you count the number of Terrier Groups won the Number One Terrier last year was the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, who won 106 Terrier Groups, more than the top two Terriers combined. Buddy also managed 16 BIS as well. Buddy was bred by Eugene Z Zaphiris & Matthew H Stander, owned by Carolyn Koch & Victor Malzoni Jr, and handled by Larry Cornelius.

Rounding out our picks is the Kerry Blue Terry, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey. Chelsey is handled by the only man to pilot a Kerry Blue to a Westminster title, Bill McFadden. Chelsey only spent half of 2011 in the show ring and collected six BIS & 23 Terrier Groups. Chelsey is off to an excellent start in 2012 with two BIS & eight Group firsts and is currently leading all Terriers. Chelsey was bred by Brendan & S Laing, and owned by Ed & Lynn Yingling & Phil Davies.

We start our reports today with the results from yesterday’s Sun Maid Kennel Club Of Fresno (CA). Gene Blake’s superlative seven were the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mountain View National Acclaim, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Vin-Melca‘s The Norseman, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Goarrhein Chateau Palos Shiraz RN TD PT, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Alpine‘s Highwayman, the Pomeranian, CH CR Chase What Matters, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Hatch Tillie de la Salsa.

His best was the Elkhound, Erik. Erik, who was show only limitedly, was 2011’s Number One Elkhound with one BIS & 11 Hound Groups. Congratulations to breeder/owner Pat Trotter, co-breeder Vicki Vermillion, and owner Jennifer Reed.

The Sahuaro State Kennel Club’s day two show gathered many of the best in the west today including the English setter, GCH CH Oakl;ey’s B’Dazzled, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek’s Kiss and Tell, the Boxer, GCH CH R and G’s Mystical Dancer, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, the Pug, GCH CH Winsome-Nirvana-Blaque Triple Play, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Lebull's New Hope Wooly Bully, and the Australian Cattle Dog, GCH CH Carben Copy's If The Shoe Fits.

It was our DOG2WATCH, the Boxer, Danny, taking home his first BIS of the year. Danny has been consistent performer so far this year with several important group placements in Palm Springs CA and Portland OR, keeping Danny in the early rankings race. Today’s Conyers Kennel Club of Georgia drew more than 2200 dogs to Atlanta GA. The seven that BIS judge Ms Mike Macbeth saw were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Pepper Tree Zorro V Morgenwald, the Skye Terrier, CH Of Skyeline Captain Hook, the Pug, GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor, the Standard Poodle, CH Fantastico da Mayo, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Dalarno Nite Song at Morningstar.

Best went to the Poodle, Fantastico. The Brazilian import won his first BIS in the US this year at a small “boutique” show. Today’s win demonstrates this dog can win anywhere.

BIS was the Toy Poodle, Sakura. It’s the second BIS for the 23 month old bitch who has already logged seven Toy Group first places this year. We think it’s safe to say that she is DOG2WATCH.

The seven who made it to Douglas Johnson’s final were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the 15” Beagle, CH Torquay Be Nice To Me, the Akita, Ruthdale's Candy From A Baby, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Broxden Danea, the Pug, GCH CH Caper's Sirius Endeavor, the Standard Poodle, CH Fantastico Da Maya, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Dalarno Nite Song at Morning Star.

2011’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Cocker, Beckham, added another BIS to his already impressive resume. It’s the third of the year for Beckham and handler Michael Pitt.

Scarlett was bred by Tina Porter & Lee Stanton, is owned by Debbie McCarroll, Mark Fagan, Mrs Jack Billhardt, & Sergio Tenenbaum, and handled by Diego Garcia.

Scarlet will be challenged in the breed by a Boxer dog, GCH CH R and G’s Mystical Dancer. Both dogs exhibit beautiful breed type with Scarlett sporting a refined, feminine look and Danny capitalizing on a powerful, masculine presence. Danny finished 2011 as the Number Two Boxer, the Number Three Working Dog, & the Number 17 Dog All Breeds with 17 BIS & 63 Working Groups. Danny is shown by breeder/owner Kimberlie Steele-Gamero. Rounding out Team Danny are breeder/owner Gayann Jones, and owners Roberta & Roberto Bezerra, Barbara Bachman, C Desmond, & Gary Steele.

GCH CH Szumeria's Wildwood Silver Six Pence

GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence is the top winning Kuvazs in AKC history with 25 career BIS. Tanner & handler Diana Wilson finished the season as the Number Nine Dog All Breeds with 18 big rosettes & 70 Working Group top prizes and won a giant BIS in Palm Springs CA to start the 2012. Tanner was bred by Beatrice Page, Clay Page, Lynn Brady, & Constance Townsend, and is owned by Mercedes Vila, Lynn Brady, Constance Townsend, & Claudia Muir.

GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici

The current Number One Dog All Breeds is a Doberman Pinscher with the very un-Doberman-like name of FiFi. GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, made it all the way to the Number 19 Dog All Breeds spot in 2011 with 15 BIS & 44 Working Groups. This year she has coming out roaring, winning three of the four BIS in Portland OR earlier this year. FiFi, breeder/owner handled by Jocelyn Mullins, was bred by Jocelyn & husband Kevin Mullins, and co-owned by the Mullins & Suzy & Dick Lundy.

Our final choice in the Working Group is the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor Flirt's Hi Flyin' Gladiator. Pilot came on strong at the end of the year to finish as the Number Ten Working Dog with four BIS & 27 Working Groups and was the breed winner at December’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Pilot was bred by Wendi Lewellen and handled by Perry Payson.

Saguaro State Park

The clusters are back! Our show weeks begins tomorrow when the Union County Kennel Club will open the five show Atlantic Ocean Classic in Wildwood NJ. The Boardwalk Kennel Club & the Sand And Sea Kennel Club will follow with two shows each. Atlanta GA will join the fun on Thursday with the Cherokee Rose Cluster, a four show funfest hosted by the Griffin Georgia Kennel Club, the Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club Of Georgia, the Conyers Kennel Club Of Georgia, & the Lawrenceville Kennel Club.

Out west the Sporting Dog Association Of Arizona limited breed shows kicks off the Heart of the Desert Classic’s five day visit in Phoenix AZ. The Sporting dogs will join the other six groups for the four all breed shows hosted by the Sahuaro State Kennel Club & the Lost Dutchman Kennel Club.

Our remaining shows are of the traditional two day weekend form. In New England look for the Great Barrington Kennel Club in West Springfield MA, in the Heartland it’s the St Joseph MO hometown Kennel Club, just next door it’s the Southeast Arkansas Kennel Club in Pine Bluff AR, in the Land of Enchantment it’s the hometown Hobbs New Mexico Kennel Club, & in the Golden State it’s the Sun Maid Kennel Club of Fresno (CA).

For many of us It will be the last chance to see most of the dogs heading to New York for the Westminster Kennel Club show. Get out this weekend and see what makes AKC one of the best family outings available.

We’ve saved this one for you. The Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, swept all three shows in Grayslake IL this weekend.

On Friday London was the choice of Brian Meyer who might have chosen the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, the Basset Hound , GCH CH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Pepper Tree Zorro V. Morgenwald, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Gordon's Bite Of The Apple, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Austin Powers, or the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables The Frat Boy, but he didn’t.

Saturday the aforementioned Springer, Basset Hound, Shih Tzu, the Bullmastiff GCH CH Newscastle's Picturesque Picasso, the Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlake Simply Sinful, , and the Rough Collie, GCH Wyndlair Cherokee Vindication all plead their case with Kent Delaney to no avail.

Sunday, Jay Richardson made it unanimous, choosing London over the above named Springer, Schnauzer, Border Terrier, Chin, & Sheltie and the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet & the Japanese Chin, GCH CH Pem Wy-Syng Lucky Mi . London will enter Madison Square Garden next month on a roll with six BIS already this year.

Now that the on line catalogs for the Middle Peninsula Kennel Club Of Virginia’s two shows in Doswell VA have been liberated we can tell you about yesterday’s show. You may recall that a generous reader managed to get past the embargo and send us results on Saturday’s show.

On Sunday it was Jane Forsyth choosing her Best of the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Whirlaways Ida Belle's A Ringing, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Magellan's I Want To Be Your Man, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Lomondview Clementina, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Spotlight’s Ruffian, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Masquerade Mikey Likes It.

It was the Cocker, Beckham, picking up his second of the set. 2011’s Number One Dog All Breeds brings his “A” game with him into New York next month.

The St Charles Missouri Kennel Club was set up in Lake St Louis this weekend. You can read about the day one show here. On Sunday The seven that Diane Malenfant saw were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH My Buddy’s Boppity-Bop Blue Moon RN, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Bahama Sands, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s Be Bop Baby, the Pug, CH House Poory JP Yum-Yum Zerohour, the Keeshond, GCH CH Baronwood Infinity & Beyond, and Saturday’s BIS winner, the Border Collie, GCH CH Sporting Fields Heiress HSAs.

Sunday belonged to another Sporting Fields dog, the Whippet, Tawny. Tawny and handler Amada Giles are off to a very good start this year with three BIS and six Hound Groups. If you are at Westminster this year, do stop by Ring 2 at 11:15 on Monday, February 13th to see this beautiful bitch. If you can’t make it wait until Monday afternoon and check out the Westminster Kennel Club’s site and watch the video of the judging. You’ll be glad you did.

Best went to the Harrier, Chet. It’s the first of the year for Chet, who finished 2011 with five Bests In Show and 17 Hound Groups, including the Group at last month’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Chet is one of our picks for this year’s Westminster Hound Group and we think he is a DOG2WATCH. Colonel Joe Purkhiser closed the set on Sunday with Chet, the above named Great Dane & Bichon, the English Springer Spaniel, CH Designers I Think I Am In A Dance Off, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Rockyhill Icees Raisin' The Bar, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Bar-Net Rocky Road Of Samron, the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Rocheuses Me And My Shadow At Cornus.

His Best In Show was the Bouvier, Casper. It’s the second of the year for Casper and handler Heather Johnson.

We told you last night that Taffee McFadden and the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, picked up the BIS t yesterday’s Orange Empire Dog Club in San Bernardino. This morning we can tell you that Taffee’s husband, Bill McFadden and the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, also collected a big rosette yesterday, at the day two show of the Golden Gate Kennel Club in San Francisco’s Cow Palace.

Joining Bill & Chelsey in Jeanette McGinnis’ final were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Silhouette’s LifeInTheFastLane, the 15” Beagle, CH Cabaret Come Chase The Dream, the Samoyed, GCH CH Rossia’s Denali Star, the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere’s Dusting of White Pevyne, the Keeshond, GCH CH Summerwind‘s Rumor Has It, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Allure at Wyndstar.

Our picks for Whom to Watch at Westminster in the Hound Group include two Hounds that set breed records in 2011 and two standouts at last month’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (AENC).

GCH CH Starline’s Chanel

Last year’s Number One Hound, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, is the winningest Whippet of all time with 69 all breed BIS, 35 of which came in 2011. She is also the winner of the 2010 WKC Hound Group. However, as we have written here, Chanel will have to get past last year’s Number Two Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Bahama Sands, before she can contend for the Group win. Chanel was bred and is owned by Carey & Lori Lawrence and handled by Lori Wilson.

GCH CH Northgate’s AS You Like It

Another breed record holder is the Pharaoh Hound, GCH Northgate’s As You Like It, who finished last year as the Number Eight Dog All Breeds, just behind Chanel. Qing and handler Brian Livingston picked up 35 BIS in 2011, bringing Qing’s career total to 50. Qing was bred by Hanna Ukura, is owned by Jenny Hall & Annika Lundqvist-Hemstrom.

GCH CH Downhome Hi-Tech Innovator

We think that one of AKC’s rarest breeds, the Harrier, GCH CH Downhome Hi-Tech Innovator, may be among the final four. Chet is the son of the breed record holder, CH Downhome Family Tradition. Although Chet entered the race late in last season, he still managed five Bests In Show and 17 Hound Groups, most notably, the AENC Hound Group in December. Chet was bred by Susan Lowder, Ken and Miriam Nell, is owned by Carla & Joe Sanchez, and handled by Jorge & Suzie Olivera.

Rounding out our Hound choices is the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Mowgli. Last year breeder/owner/handler Jay Hafford led Mowgli to seven all breed BIS, 26 Hound Groups, BISS at the Afghan Hound Club of America’s 2011 National Specialty by, & Best Bred By Exhibitor In Show at the 2011 AENC. Mowgli is owned by Jay, co-breeder James P Blanchard, A Sterner, and D Rogers.

Things today in Alexandria LA at the Baton Rouge Kennel Club day two show looked remarkably like day one as the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy, took home his second consecutive BIS. Drummer’s rivals in Stephen Hubbell’s final were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Summits Emery It's In The Bag, the Saluki, GCH DC Shahtani Ivory Moon SC, the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style, the Scottish Terrier, CH Kelwyn's History in the Making, the Chinese Crested, GCH CH Silvercreek's Friendship Is Golden, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Harmony Hill’s Money Talks.

Drummer and handler Scott Sommer now have three BIS to add to their 2012 resume as they prepare for next month’s Westminster Kennel Club show.

It’s our Superbowl & Christmas all rolled into one. Every year we look at the dogs competing and choose those to include in our Whom to Watch at Westminster (WWW) list. A word of warning--this is all just for your entertainment. We have no inside information and we are not endorsing any individual or dog. We will start with the Sporting Group, always competitive and never mores so than this year. 2011’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, goes into the big dance as the dog to beat. Beckham and handlers Michael & Linda Pitts collected 68 all breed BIS & 148 Sporting groups. Beckham was bred by Linda Moore who co-owns with Bruce Vandeman, Carolee Douglas, Mary Walker, & Cindy Cassidy.

The Number Two Sporting Dog last year was the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova. Peyton finished the year as the lucky 13th dog in the all breed standings with 16 BIS & 71 Group Firsts, Team Peyton consists of breeders Billie, Erin, & Charlie Kerfoot & Ruth Kirby, owners Celie Florence, Beth Fink, Erin Kerfoot, PhD, Ken Goodhue-McWilliams, PhD, & Delores Strength, and handler Robin Novack.

The German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View's Ripsnorter Silver Charm, started off the year with a bang picking up back2back BIS on the first weekend of the show year. Oakley and handler Phil Booth have added one more since then. Oakley was bred by Claire Wisch & Kelly Wisch, & Helen George and is owned by the Wisches.

GCH CH Oakley’s B’Dazzled

The English Setter, GCH CH Oakley’s B’Dazzled, is Number Two on our just published first traditional Top Ten of 2012. Dazzle and handler Bruce Schultz picked up a big, big BIS in Palm Springs earlier this month, followed it with another in Puyalllup WA, and just completed a very successful stop in Portland OR. Dazzle was bred by Jim Jannard & Paula Dempsey, and owned by Donald & Georgejean Jensen & Erik & Jennifer StricklandNext up the Hound Group.

Rosedown Plantation Louisiana

Our show week begins tomorrow in Alexandria LA where the Baton Rouge Kennel Club & Alexandria Kennel Club will team up for four all breed shows, the only four show cluster in the country this week. The Chain O'lakes Kennel Club & the Park Shore Kennel Club will partner for three all breeds in Grayslake IL beginning Friday.

The Middle Peninsula Kennel Club Of Virginia will augment its two weekend shows in Doswell VA with the Potomac Hound Club’s & the Virginia Terrier Club’s limited breed shows on Friday. Out in San Bernardino CA the Tri-Valley Working Dog Club’s limited breed shows Of Pinon Hills will open on Friday & close on Monday for the Orange Empire Dog Club’s two all breed shows.

Everyone else will have to make do with the traditional two show weekend whether in Ladson SC with the Charleston Kennel Club, in Ocala FL with the Greater Gainesville Dog Fanciers Association, in Erie PA with the Erie Kennel Club, in Lake St Louis MO with the St Charles Missouri Kennel Club, in Daly City CA with the Golden Gate Kennel Club or in Anchorage AK with the Kenai Kennel Club & the Alaska Kennel Club.

That’s ten different venues offering you a chance to see this year’s crop of hopefuls. There’s no football this weekend. There’s no lawn to mow. You have no excuse. Get out to your local show and pick your favorite for next month's Westminster Kennel Club show.

The one place we didn’t hear from this weekend was Rosenberg TX where the Fort Bend Kennel Clup was set up for two days. On Saturday Yoshio Mori gathered the Welsh Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Red Dragon, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Vyrtuous Command Performance, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Horizon's Evangeline, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Torum The Spaniard, the Papillon, GCH CH Copella's Rising Attraction, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Jade East Do You Know The Way To San Jose, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Enchanted's American Thunder.

Best went to the Saluki, Jayda. Jayda was 2011’s Number One Saluki with four BIS and 24 Hound Groups. Congratulations to Congratulations to breeder Nancy Bodine, owner Lori May, and handler Gerry L Thornton.

GCH CH Rockyhill Icees Raisin' The Bar

On Sunday Jayda was back to see BIS judge Denny Mounce along with the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Scion Hott Pants RN, the Samoyed, GCH CH Polar Mist Cruz'n T'Party At Zamosky, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Rockyhill Icees Raisin' The Bar, the aforementioned Papillon & Shar-Pei, and the Border Collie, GCH CH Borderfame Signature.

It was the Miniature Schnauzer, Judge, picking up his first all breed. Congratulations to breeder/owner Shirley Fry.

Thanks to our partners at Best In Show Daily and our dedicated readers we were able to give you most of this past week’s results as they happened. Her Best was the Shi Tzu, Looker. It’s the second career Best for the 21 month old Looker and his first this year. Congratulations to breeders/owners Carol Randle & Carrie Randle. Maybe now that looker's almost two, someone can get me a grown up photo?

Exhibitors heading home from Portland OR will face rain slicked roads whether heading north or south, but exhibitors at today’s West Oahu Kennel Club show in the Ewa suburb of Honolulu HI enjoyed another day in paradise. BIS judge Joe Walton greeted the Vizsla, CH Relwood’s MGM Grand, the Whippet, CH Hold Me Close de Sud, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Majestic Cracklin Rosie Lemils RN, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Reigning Bulls Analyzed by the Devil, the Pekingese, GCH Da Mao’s Moon Pie BN RA, the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Xeralane’s Kid Rock, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Karizma’s Bonaire von Loar Kaleef.

His BIS was the Lhasa, Kid. It’s the first all breed Best for Kid. Congratulations to breeders/owners Xeralane Kennels and owners Susan Giles, Mary Vaden, Wendy Harper, Muriel Wolverton.

Japanese judge Hiroshi Kamisato was in Ventura CA today to call the BIS for the Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association. Judge Kamisato’s options were the GCH CH Clumber Spaniel, Moonrysn Critter’s James Dean, the Basenji, GCH CH Jasiri-Sukari Win Tin Tin, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Alnisar’s Princess Anastacia, the Airedale, CH Penaire’s Chip Leader at Longvue, the Pug, Winsome Ab Fab at Shylo, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Allure at Wyndstar.

It’s been a day for back2back BIS and three-peats. Joining that tony crowd is the Corgi, Allie. Allie picks up the consecutive Bests and a great head start on the year. Look for her at a show near you.

Bill Shelton had the daunting task of choosing a BIS at today’s Tualatin Kennel Club show, the closer for the big Rose City Classic weekend in Portland OR. He made his choice from the Clumber Spaniel, CH Clussexx Collaboration With Traddles, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Bahama Sands, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks a Peek, the Yorkshire Terrier, GCH CH Pastyme’s Breaking and Entering, the Schipperke, GCH CH Dante’s Fire When Ready HOF, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey’s Tails of Mystery.

Her Latin name translates as "I came, I saw, I conquered." and that’s exactly what the Doberman, FiFi did in Portland, taking three of the four giant shows, including today’s BIS. FiFi and breeder/owner/handler Mullin came into Portland with just over 100 points. They leave with over 7,000 points. We will wait until we can vrify this week's numbers before we post our first top Ten of 2012 this week. Look for FiFi to be Number One or Two.

The Florida Marathon ended today, with the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, emerging as a legitimate contender for the Number One Dog All Breeds. Classie picked up her third big BIS of the ten day set in Brooksville FL at today’s Pasco Florida Kennel Club show. Charles Cyopik chose Classie over the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor champagne Supernova, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Lyre of Eagle, the Samoyed, GCH CH McMagic’s Candied Ham of Pebbles’Run, the Skye Terrier, CH Of Skyeline Captain Hook, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Wolf creek Galaxy of Merivern.

Classie has collected 6300 points so far this year. We will have to await the numbers from this weekend’s Portland’s shows to know how close to Number One she is.

From Novi Michigan and the Oakland County Kennel Club we hear that the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, has picked up his third BIS of the four day set. Joey was joined in Charlotte Clem McGowan’s final by the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Gwencalon’s Chocolate Chip, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Tugar’s Most Wanted, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Lomondview Clementina the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Chaoyang Take It To The Limit, and the Bouvier, GCH CH Quiche’s Grand Finale.

Joey and handler Ernesto Lara finished 2011 as the Number Five Dog All Breeds. We think he will finish this month better than that.

Our first show report today is in from the Annapolis Kennel Club who closed the four day weekend in west Friendship MD. The last seven of the stop were the Vizsla, GCH CH Artisan Grouse Point Pink Panther, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, the Great Pyrenees, GCH CH Rivergroves Casino Royale, the Parson Russell Terrier, GCH CH Foxbend Colour Me More, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Jp Sakura, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby, and the Border Collie, GCH CH Bon-Clyde’s Take One.

It was the Foxhound, Jewel, posting the back2back BIS. When we predicted yesterday that Jewel and breeder/owner/handler Lisa Miller would soon collect their second BIS, we didn’t expect it would be today, but we have to say, we’re not surprised.

In contrast to the nasty weather and huge numbers of the Pacific Northwest show scene, was today’s West Oahu Kennel Club in Ewa HI. Exhibitors were treated to the usual beautiful weather and a leisurely schedule with just 276 dogs present and competing.

The seven considered by for Best In Show by judge Sandy Wheat were the Labrador Retriever, Misty Mountain A Cut Above, the 13” Beagle, GCH CH El Caporal, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Fantasy Island’s Inspiration, the Kerry Blue Terrier, Waimanalo Blues Barney, the Pomeranian, CH Sofine’s So You Think You Can Dance, the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Xerlane’s Kid Rock, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Aumoehoku Dipped In Chocolate.

Best went to the two year old Aussie, his career second and his first of 2012. Congratulations to breeders/owners Tina Beatty & Lily Bhalang. Hopefully one of our island readers can send us a photo?

Michele Billings took the judges book today for the Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon’s second show of the Rose City Classic in Portland OR. The third day of the set was the largest with over 3000 dogs entered. The seven dogs hoping to get all those points were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Shadowland's Paws For Applause At Tristar RN, the afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon's Mowgli the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere's Dusting Off White At Pevyne, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeriddge Encore, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey’s Tails of Mystery.

She chose as her Best, the Peke, Dusty. It’s the first this year for Dusty, who finished 2011 as the Number One Pekingese in breed points and had two all breed BIS and 24 Toy Group Firsts. Congratulations to breeders/owners Cody Koch & Joy Thomas and owners Joe & Carla Sanchez.

The seven dogs who braved the rain and made it to George Marquis’ final were the English Setter, CH Palisades B52, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Abaca Shacone Native Spirit, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Blackhawk Bayley Hazen Blue, the Airedale, CH Penaire’s Chip Leader at Longvue, the Chinese crested, GCH CH Dejavu I Want ‘A Talk About Me, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Lebull New Hope Wooly Bully, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Allure at Wyndstar.

Best went to the Corgi, Allie. It’s the first BIS for the 23 month old bitch. Allie is the daughter of 2008’s Number One Herding Dog, CH Coventry’s Vanity Fair. We wouldn’t be surprised to find her following in her mother’s foot steps. The big win went to the 11 month old Akita, Rocky. This wunderkind picks up his first BIS in spectacular fashion besting both 2011’s Number One and Number Five Dogs head to head. Congratulations to breeders/owners David Osborn & Ellen Vanden Avond.

The Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, has picked up his third BIS on the Florida Marathon, taking today’s Clearwater Kennel Club show. London was accompanied in Jerry Watson’s final by the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, the Harrier, CH Tallyho The Time of My Life, the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Skansen’s Holy Knight, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Baye, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Rumpus Bumpus.

No other dog has dominated the Florida Classic in Brooksville FL as has the 2011 AKC/National Championship. Handler Ann Rairigh and London now have that all important momentum going into next month’s Westminster Kennel Club show.

The Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, posted the consecutive win at today’s Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon show in Portland OR Dana Cline chose FiFi as his Best In Show over the English Setter, GCH CH Oakley’s B’Dazzled, GCH CH Sporting Field’s Bahama Sands, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere's Dusting Off White At Pevyne, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey’s Tails of Mystery.

FiFi’s 21st career BIS, possibly her largest, catapults her into contention for the Number One Dog All Breeds. Portland OR is turning out to be a real pot boiler.

Joining Joey and handler Ernesto Lara in Norm Patton’s final were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Afghan Hound, CH Mijkelh Sikanni Of Procyon, an eleven month old Akita from the Puppy classes, Buckridge‘s No Doubt About It, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Lomondview Clementina, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogel flight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the Puli, GCH CH Moonshadow Rongyos Kis Medve.

Last year’s Number Five Dog All Breeds was already a favorite for next month’s Westminster Kennel Club show. This can’t hurt.

We are nearing the end of the ten day Florida Marathon. Robert Slay’s final at today’s Tampa Bay Kennel Club show, the eighth of the series, saw the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Afghan Hound, CH Criston Enchanted, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Pouch Cove's Lonesome Dove CD, the Skye Terrier, CH Of Skyline Captain hook, the Toy Fox Terrier, CH Prairie Farm Angel Eyes, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Dalarno Nite Song At Morningstar.

Picking up his third BIS of year was the GWP, Oakley. It’s beginning to look like we might have three Sporting Dogs in our initial Top Ten Dogs this year.

Portland OR isn’t the only place fanciers can partake in a four show weekend. The Livonia Kennel Club kicked off another four show set in Novi MI on Thursday. Barbara Dempsey Alderman’s select seven was a mix of last year’s Top Ten and this year’s Top Ten hopefuls, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casblanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Afghan Hound, CH Mijkelh Sikanni Of Procyon, the Great Pyrenees, GCH CH Beren’s Hope Of Thorn Hill, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Lomondview Clementina, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogel flight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Xtc’s What Can Brown Do For You?.

She chose last year’s Number Five Dog All Breeds, the Affenpinscher, Joey, as her Best In Show. It’s Joey’s second of 2012.

The Tualatin Kennel Club opened the big four days of all breed shows in Portland OR yesterday. Carl Gene Liepman got the first look at the inside of the BIS ring. His first day hopefuls were the German Shorthaired Pointer GCH CH Robin Crest Great Expectations, the Afghan Hound GCH CH Thaon’s Mowgli, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your heart, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Full Of Malarkey Miles Of Aisles, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Wigglesworth Thriller.

It was the Doberman, FiFi, picking up the big points. FiFi and breeder/owner/handler Jocelyn Mullins continue their winning ways--FiFi was the Number 19 Dog All Breeds last year with 15 BIS and 44 Working Groups. Congratulations to Joycelyn, co-breeder Kevin Mullins, and owners Suzy & Dick Lundy.

The Florida Marathon continued today in Brooksville FL with the second time around for the Inverness Florida Kennel Club. Victoria Jordan’s final seven featured the Weimaraner, GCH CH Northwoods send Money honey, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Mahali Arriva Meadowlark, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Hollywoods Sex and the City, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Baye, the Maltese, GCH CH Scylla Small Kraft Re-Lit, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dacun Kaylen's He's A Heartbreaker, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Wolf Creek Galaxy of Merivern.

It was the Standard Poodle, Thomas, picking up his first BIS of the new year. Thomas and owner/handler Kay Peiser fought their way out of a large breed entry, which included the winner of two of the last two shows of the set. Kay & Thomas collected ten Bests in Show & 44 Non-sporting Groups in 2011. Congratulations to Kay, breeders William Cunningham & Philip Dailey, and owner Virginia Dorris.

The Annapolis Kennel Club opened the four day visit to West Friendship MD today. Before we get to today’s all breed action, let’s talk about yesterday’s big limited breed shows in Portland OR. The Mt Ranier Working Dog Club’s event drew more than 500 dogs. Bill Shelton’s Best In Show was the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Catanya’s Latin Lover. The Kuvazs, GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the Boxer R and G’s Mystical Dancer, and Tibetan Mastiff, GCH CH Shang-Hai's Shadow Of The Cascade rounded out the placements.

The Malamute, Ricky, has been among the top ten Working Dogs for the last three years, finishing 2011 with seven all breed Bests & 25 Working Groups. Congratulations to breeders Congratulations to breeder/owner P J Kendrick, owners Armando Martinez & Alisa Syar, and handler Mike Stone.

While yesterday’s Terrier Association Of Oregon show was not as large as the working group, it was one of the largest Terrier Groups seen in the last year with over 300 entries. It was the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Steele Your Heart, grabbing the first place. Marjorie Underwood’s remaining placements were the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks a Peek, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH Ch Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, and the Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlake Simply Sinful.

The Wire, Eira, finished 2011 as AKC’s Number One Terrier with a come from behind December, compiling 17 BIS & 51 Terrier Group Firsts. Congratulations to breeders/owners Tori Steele & Mary Ann Roma, and handler Gabriel Rangel.

The Florida Marathon resumed today in Brooksville FL with the second iteration of the Manatee Kennel Club. Everyone had a day to catch their breath and the well rested seven who made it to Joseph F Joly III’s final were the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Longhaired Dachshund, CH Aviance Solo’s He’s The One SL, the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J-Cobe Broxden Danae, the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Bo-Bett’s Open Button, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Beauceron, GCH CH Beowulf Rime des Monts du Lac.

Picking up the day six BIS was the Standard Poodle, London. It’s the second of the set and new year for London, the 2011 AKC/Eukanuba Champion. We predict that this will be one of the most exciting Westminsters on record.

We now have results from this past weekend’s Golden Triangle Kennel Club of Mississippi two shows. We are not sure why it takes so long to get results from the Magnolia State. With 315 dogs present & competing on Saturday, it couldn’t have been that difficult to compile the results. Nonetheless, as we have often said here, these “Boutique Shows” often draw major talent.

James Ham’s final seven on Saturday were the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Cajun’s A Change Is Gonna Come, the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, the Boxer, GCH CH Breho Fortuity Shared Treasure, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, CH Empire n Divine’s Change in my Pocket, the Maltese, CH Chrisman’s Shiny Toy Gun, the Standard Poodle, CH Fantastico Da Maya, and the Australian Cattle Dog, GCH CH Dawn Heir’s He’s The Boss.

Day one belonged to the Saluki, Bubbles. Bubbles had one BIS and six Hound Groups in limited showing in 2011. We look for Bubbles and handler Erin Roberts to improve on that in 2012. Congratulations to Erin, breeder Kathleen Morton, and owners Sandra Middlebrook, Jackie Harrington & Sara Winsted.

On Sunday, Nancy Simmons saw the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Brookwood Diamond in the Ruff, the Whippet, CH Wildrbriar Whimsical of Longlesson, the aforementioned Boxer & Staffy Bull, the Pekingese, GCH CH Benaire’s N’Elphasun’s Razzmatazz, the above named Standard Poodle, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Eden Crown’s Designer Label.

Her Best In Show was the Brazilian Import, the Standard Poodle, Fantastico. Fantastico was Brazil’s Number One Dog All Breeds in 2010 with 41 all breed BIS. Our congratulations on his first AKC show to breeder/owner Zuleika Torrealba and handler Christian Manelopoulos. We told you that there was major talent at these boutique shows.

Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center

The new show year is now in full swing with today being one of the few off days to be found in January. The Florida Marathon in Brooksville FL is enjoying the intermission between its two-five-show acts and will resume tomorrow with the Manatee Kennel Club’s second show of the stay. The Inverness Florida Kennel Club, the Tampa Bay Kennel Club, the Clearwater Kennel Club, & the Pasco Florida Kennel Club will all host an additional show before its all over.

The big prize this week is in Portland OR with more than 10,000 points up for grabs when the Tualatin Kennel Club launches its four-show collaboration with the Dog Fanciers Association Of Oregon on Thursday. Throw in two limited breed shows courtesy of the Terrier Association Of Oregon & the Mount Rainier Working Dog Club and a bucket full of specialties and you have one of the four biggest weekends of the year.

East Coast & Great Lakes Fanciers will also have four-show weekends beginning Thursday, the Annapolis Kennel Club & the Carroll Kennel Club in West Friendship MD and the Livonia Kennel Club & the Oakland County Kennel Club in Novi MI. Traditional two day weekends are available in Des Moines IA with the Central Iowa Kennel Club, in Rosenberg TX in with the Fort Bend Kennel Club., in Ventura CA with the San Fernando Kennel Club & the Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association, and in Ewa HI with the West Oahu Kennel Club.

If you are lucky enough to be in Portland OR this week stop in at the Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center and take in one of the most impressive dog shows held in the US. You may even get introduced to a future National Champion or Westminster BIS winner.

The Pasco Florida Kennel Club hosted their first round of the stay in Brooksville FL on day five of the Florida Marathon. Dr Carmen Battaglia greeted another surviving seven, the Weimaraner, GCH CH Northwood’s Send Money Honey, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH D’s Devil Wears Prada, the Welsh Terrier, CH Geri’s Gales Baron Rojo, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Austin Ally Van Aachen.

It was the 2011 AKC/Eukanuba National Champion, the Standard Poodle, London, roaring to the front of the pack. London and handler Ann Rairigh came from behind to finish an impressive sixth in the 2011 All Breeds race with 34 BIS and 91 Non-Sporting Groups. In Fitchburg MA, the Merrimack Valley Kennel Club closed the four day stop with Judith Daniels’ final. Raydachs Playing With Fire V Gleishorbach SW, the Akita, GCH GCH CH Sherob Stardus It Had To Be You, the Scottish Terrier, CH Kelwyn's History In The Making, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH Royalist Ready to Reign, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Hamelot Little Drummer Boy, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey's Tails Of Mystery.

Day one went to one of Texas’ favorite sons, the Bichon, Drummer. Drummer and handler Scott Sommer finished 2011 as the Number Ten Dog All Breeds with 25 BIS & 92 Non-Sporting Groups. Classie finished 2012 as the Number Three Toy Dog, but she takes the early lead in the Group this year.

Best went to the Whippet, Chanel. Cha Cha and handler Lori Wilson have logged six Hound Group top prizes in six outings so far this year and today they have their first all breed BIS. Chanel and Lori finished 2011 as the number One Whippet, the Number One Hound, and the Number Seven Dog All Breeds with 35 and an astounding 130 hound Groups.
